Things I miss and don't

Things I miss:
  • Raw apple cider (i.e. the non-alcoholic version you get at farmer's markets)
  • The mulled cider you make from raw apple cider
  • Pumpkin pie
  • New England clam chowder
  • Clam cakes
  • Maple syrup
  • Pancakes. Like, real pancakes. Not the stuff they serve here cold, in a bowl, with custard.
  • S'mores nights in front of the King House fireplace
  • Ovens (and baking sugary, buttery treats with friends at 1am)
  • Group-studying with friends until the wee hours in the morning
  • The Blue Room
  • Brown student theatre (PW, how I miss thee!)
  • RISD
Things I don't miss at all:
  • The all-pervasive cloud of pot smoke in dorm halls
  • Pants-drenching, fierce New England rain
  • My Brown mailbox, which was always too damn high for me
  • Smelly, musty dorm carpets (they vacuum ours every week)
  • Overcooked mystery meat at the Ratty
  • Overcooked almost-everything at the Ratty

  1. I would like it noted that Trough pancakes are not the normal way of doing pancakes here; they are an abomination against God and should never have been allowed.

  2. Hot damn, girl, I put off trying to wish you a happy birthday until I could send something or trying to mail you a care package because I had no idea what would be sufficiently New England-y, but ... consider half of those things sent. (:

  4. They have pumpkins here... except that the Brits treat it strictly as a vegetable. It's as if I said, "I wanna eat sweet squash pie."

    Clearly, they are missing out.
